Fire Protection Water Reservoir – UAE
Overview:
In a mission-critical fire protection project for a major oil terminal in Abu Dhabi, a large open water reservoir was secured using the Guardball floating cover system. Designed to preserve water quality and reduce thermal fluctuations in harsh desert conditions, this installation ensured year-round operational readiness of firefighting systems.
Challenges:
- Intense solar radiation and high ambient temperatures
- Dust storms and airborne debris contamination risks
- Evaporation losses reducing emergency water availability
Solution:
Thousands of modular Guardball units were deployed across the surface of the firewater pond. Their interlocking structure provided a stable, protective barrier that dramatically reduced exposure to sunlight and airborne contaminants.
Results:
✔ Eliminated surface contamination from debris and dust
✔ Significantly reduced water temperature fluctuation
✔ Prevented algae growth and evaporation loss
✔ Maintained constant firefighting water availability
✔ Extended maintenance intervals for downstream systems
Conclusion:
With Guardball, the client achieved a cost-effective and maintenance-friendly solution that aligned with HSE (Health, Safety & Environment) compliance standards and fire readiness requirements across all seasons in the challenging Middle Eastern climate.
